João Claudio Albuquerque joins MetOcean Solutions
This week we welcome João Claudio Albuquerque to MetOcean Solutions.
João is a physical oceanographer and will be working in our marine project consultancy team, based in New Plymouth.
Following a BSc. and MSc. in Computer Science, João has completed his PhD in Physical Oceanography at the University of Auckland. His research was focused on the past and projected off- and near-shore wave climate of New Zealand, studying the changes of our regional wave characteristics towards the end of this century.
With over a decade of experience, João brings years of lecturing and tutoring plus 9 years in the environmental industry, working with a team of engineers and meteorologists to develop systems and solutions for scientific applications.
“I am really excited about this role at MetOcean,” says João. “It will be great to work with this exceptional team of scientists in such a diverse range of projects. At the same time, I am keen to work close with the operations team and facilitate the synergy and integration between operational tools and the consultancy team’s requirements.”
MetOcean Solutions’ Marine Project Consultancy Manager Dr Alexis Berthot says the MetOcean Research and Development team has a strong group of experts in wave processes, hindcasting and forecasting.
“Our consultancy work also requires this level of expertise for tailored wave modelling studies including phase averaging and phase resolving wave modelling, infragravity waves modelling, beach processes/surf wave modelling, extreme value and joint probability analysis.”
“We are delighted to welcome João as his experience in wave modelling and programming language will be an invaluable resource for our team,” says Alexis.
