MetOcean Solutions' software SurfZoneView has been nominated for the 2016 Minister of Defence Awards of Excellence to Industry.

MetOcean Solutions are being considered in the “The provision of a product to Defence for less than $15 m” Award category for the SurfZoneView software.

SurfZoneView is a standalone tool to support amphibious and nearshore operations. The tool, which was developed in collaboration with the New Zealand Defence Force, is based on accurate high-quality hydrodynamic modelling. It allows rapid assessment of the waves and currents at any coastal location, displaying results in clear, easy-to-use maps and providing tools to assist with operational decision-making.

The Minister of Defence Awards of Excellence to Industry were established by the New Zealand Defence Industry Advisory Council to highlight and reward the contributions made by industry to Defence.

"We are very proud to be nominated for the Award," states MetOcean Technical Director Dr David Johnson. "The creation of SurfZoneView was an excellent collaborative project in which we worked together with the New Zealand Defence Force to take their concept from vision to reality. It is a great example of applying leading edge oceanographic science to solve real-world problems. We are very happy to have created something that will help keep the New Zealand Defence personnel safe."

The nominations will be evaluated in August and September and the final results will be announced thereafter.
